Synesthesia.2

Curator Anabelle Rodriguez-Lawton shares some intel on the Synesthesia.2 Exhibition @ SINErgy Project Space + Gallery

This group exhibit was curated by Anabelle Rodriguez, a friend from the Visual Anthropology graduate program at Temple University that I was enrolled in during the early 2000s.  We both had an interest in studying with Jay Ruby, who was the head of the program at that time.  Anabelle went on to be a successful curator and included my work in a few of her exhibitions.

The show was especially significant because it was here that I was introduced to Justin Gibbon, the co-owner of the SINErgy Art Space.  Since that time, I have been privileged to contribute to many of Justin’s productions and events as both a deejay and video artist.  I am currently a resident in his Great Circles collective.

Synesthesia.2 brings together new and recent work by 18 remarkable visual artists from Philadelphia and New York City in an aural-visual exploration of the blending of the senses as art.

My latest curatorial project is the second iteration of an ongoing multimedia exhibition initiative I decided to title Synesthesia: The Blending of the Senses as Art. There will be as many exhibitions under this rubric as I have the opportunity of developing, but each one is and will be unique and tailored to individual venues.

For Synesthesia.2 I brought together a tight group of 18 emerging and established artists from Philadelphia and New York City.

I’m particularly excited about this exhibition because it is currently installed in an incredible experimental venue called SINErgy Project Space + Gallery located on 2310 N. American St. (@ Dauphin) in Philadelphia, PA. Having had the fortune of curating exhibitions for some great spaces in Philly & NYC I have to say that all in all SINErgy is a dream space for any curator. That and the fact I get to work with some of my favorite artists make this a rather special project for me and just about everyone involved. I’m grateful to Justin Gibbon and Dan Trevitt of Inciting, the visionary company that manages SINErgy, and I’m thankful to all the artists in the show for sharing their talent and work with us!

HOW WHAT IS ABSENT RELATES TO THAT WHICH IS BROUGHT TOGETHER

Language Begins

A fundamental characteristic of motion picture language, one that is germane to all photographic arts, is that it refers to objects by using the objects to which it refers.

Permanent

If you are contemplating permanent and need a word to express it, “stop” would be the utterance par excellence. Permanent is a stop: the stopping of change.
